N47 trillion 2025 budget to be presented by President Tinubu this week – Senate

Tinubu presents budget

President Bola Tinubu is set to present the 2025 national budget within the week, as revealed by the Nigerian Senate.

The Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), who revealed this on Sunday added that the budget presentation might be “this week or in earnest”, marking the federal government’s commitment to fiscal planning and timely budgetary processes.

He added that the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper are being reviewed by the Senate Committee on Finance, both of which are prerequisites for the budget presentation.

“The Senate Committee on Finance is already working on the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and would be meeting with the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) tomorrow (Monday),” Adaramodu shared.

The Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are expected to defend their 2024 expenditure plans while outlining their projections for the 2025 budget.

President Tinubu had on Tuesday submitted the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) for 2025–2027 to both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Subsequently, the Senate Committee on Finance, National Planning, and Economic Affairs was directed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to review the MTEF/FSP documents and present their report within a week.
