Mystery fire razes yam barn in Ebonyi community

A mysterious fire has razed a yam ban worth over N4 million in Omege Noyo Alik, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The fire also razed other goods worth over N2 million. The disaster occurred on Monday.

Some of the victims, including Michael Mbam and Jonathan Mbam, said they were not in the house when the incident happened.

They explained that they were called by neighbours who saw smoke coming out from their compound. They disclosed that their source of livelihood, including their yam ban, which cost above N2 million each, were all consumed by the fire outbreak.

They called on the government, especially Governor Francis Nwifuru and other good spirited people, to assist them overcome the ugly incident which, if not controlled, might lead to their untimely death.

One of their neighbours, Boniface Nome, described the disaster as unfortunate. He pleaded with stakeholders of Ikwo, public office holders and the state government to assist the victims to recover from the huge loss.

Other sympathisers thanked God that no life was lost, but joined in the call for people to assist the victims cushion the effect of such disaster. As of the time of this report, there was no trace of the cause or source of the fire outbreak.
