Nollywood actress, producer, and entrepreneur, Lilian Afegbai known for her vibrant screen presence and compelling storytelling, recently opened up on why she keeps her personal and relationship life away from friends, regardless of how close they may appear to be.
Speaking during a recent episode of the podcast, Unfiltered & Extra Spicy, the Mother’s Love star revealed that her friendships are often misunderstood by those who assume her outgoing nature reflects deep emotional closeness.
“In real life, I don’t discuss my life or my relationship with my friends. My friendships are not deep. People see that I am friendly and have so many friends around me, and they think I am close to everybody,” she noted.
Afegbai further explained that while she is generally warm and sociable, she remains intensely private, describing herself as secretive and unpredictable.
“I am very secretive and private. I don’t have a problem when you call me secretive or think I am not a trustworthy person. Friends around me know me already. You can’t predict me.”
The actress disclosed that her guarded nature stems from long-standing trust issues, which she said did not begin in adulthood, but from her childhood experiences.

When asked whether past events contributed to her distrust of people, the Edo State indigene responded that her struggle with trust has been present for as long as she can remember.
“I had trust issues from childhood. It’s been a long time coming. It has been a lot of learning and unlearning,” she said.
The 6ft tall movie diva also shared that she is currently undergoing therapy as part of her journey toward emotional healing and personal growth, admitting that she is intentionally working on creating room for people in her life.
“I’m going for therapies to be better because it’s good to know and give room to people. So, I am a work in progress. I discuss my family issues, relationship, and other personal matters to God, not friends,” she said.
However, the actress did not mince words about her boundaries, stressing that her intimate life is strictly off-limits to public opinion and unsolicited advice.
“My personality doesn’t discuss personal matters with anyone. If I am intimate with anyone, it is not your business. If I am dating someone, it is not your business. I don’t need your advice. Keep it to yourself.”
