Nigeria’s sports minister, Senator John Enoh says the duty assigned to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a tough but believes the challenges are surmountable.
The Minister admitted at a parley with media in Lagos that after just two weeks on the job, it’s like he has been in the ministry for years.
However, Senator Enoh assures that with the passion he’s bringing to the job, he’s sure going to leave a landmark in the sports ministry.
“Mr President wanted somebody who’s committed, who has the passion and can provide leadership and he found me worthy to do that.
“I’ve read a lot of sports materials and I see that the sector offers so much. It’s has a huge potentials of increasing the country’s GDP,” he said.
Senator Enoh listed funding, trust and facilities as major challenges in the ministry but stressed that he’s bringing trust, a major ingredient to boost the confidence of investors to help in addressing funding and facilities challenges.
“The problems are there but not insurmountable. I come to make a success of my assignment but I need everyone to help me in this direction.
“Funding problem remains a challenge, it’s never enough. Even the little released you have the trust deficient. But I bring transparency and openness, to restore confidence and to provide the direction for sponsors to come in,” he assured.
The minister assures the athletes of their welfare while also promising insurance schemes to take care of their future.
