Ahead of his formal reception into the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas on Friday clarified that his defection to the APC is a strategic alignment that is intended to fast track development of the state rather his personal political survival.

The SA Media and Digital Communication to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Bello disclosed this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Friday.

He said that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President aligns well with the five finger agenda of his administration and he has chosen to follow the President to ensure that the people of the state are not left out of the dividends of democracy that the agenda brings.

The governor maintained that PDP had plunged into a self-made crisis that has literally destroyed the party, noting that staying back in the party was no longer an option. He said the only smart move was to follow the largest and ruling political party that promised to bring massive development to the state.

“We all know that this is a historic moment in the political landscape of Taraba. PDP has ruled the state exclusively since the return to democracy in 1999. However, what makes great leaders is the ability to know when to call it quits and to realign. That is what the governor has just done.

“It is clear that the PDP is no longer a reliable political platform. Apart from that, the governor has a very clear agenda for the development of Taraba State and that agenda conforms with the policies of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“And so it is only natural for him to do the needful and join his party so that it will be easier for him to achieve the development goals he has for the state.

“Let me also make it very clear that this is not about the governor’s personal interest. As a matter of fact, even if the governor contests under any other political party, his chances of winning are simply overwhelming. So this has nothing to do with political survival. It is strictly about the state and that has always been the priority of this administration.”
