The decomposing and mutilated body of an unidentified man has been found behind the Monday Market in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, with some vital parts of his body reportedly missing.
The corpse was discovered on Tuesday morning by members of the community, who alerted security operatives. The body was subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital, Pankshin, for identification and further examination.
The discovery has caused concern among residents, particularly following reports that the deceased’s private part, ears, nose and other sensitive parts of his body had been removed or mutilated. A resident, Panshak Rogo, who spoke with journalists at the hospital, described the incident as disturbing and called for a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Rogo said: “This is a bizarre discovery as nobody witnessed any violence. It is either he was silently killed there or he was killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the back of the market before it was discovered today.
“We are presently trying to ascertain his identity. We are urging members of the public who have filed missing-person reports to come to the hospital for possible identification because some sensitive organs have been removed from the body.
“His ears and nose were cut off, while his private part has also been tampered with.”
He appealed to anyone with useful information about the deceased or circumstances surrounding his death to report to the police to assist investigation.
Security agencies are expected to commence investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery and determine the identity of the deceased as well as the cause of death.
