Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has described the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, as a nationalist, whose legacy of equity, justice, and true federalism should inspire younger generations.
Mutfwang, who made the remarks in Lagos on Thursday evening, during a condolence visit to the family of the late elder statesman, expressed admiration for Adebanjo’s dedication to the Nigerian cause even in his twilight years.
“I got to know Ayo Adebanjo towards the end of his life, but he has built for me an endearing memory of a rugged fight for fairness, justice, and true federalism. The consistency with which he fought was admirable. He came into my own conscious reckoning during the Second Republic, and I have followed his trajectory since then.”
The governor called on the youth to uphold the ideals Adebanjo stood for, stating that fulfilling the vision of a just and equitable Nigeria would be the best way to honour his memory.
“I believe that the younger generation should follow his leadership and continue with the struggles to bring Nigeria to that desired place of justice and equity. Imbibe the spirit of Baba, believe that Nigeria is worth fighting for, and will be better,” Mutfwang said.
Mutfwang also lauded the late leader’s advocacy for gender equality, noting that his administration had given women key roles in governance.
