Mutfwang formally defects to APC, Yilwatda announces

From Jude Owuamanam, Jos

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, has announced the formal defection of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the ruling party.

The announcement, which was made at a stakeholders’ meeting of the party at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, ended months of speculation and indecision by the governor whether to remain in the PDP or move to the ruling party.

Speaking while announcing Mr Mutfwang’s defection, the APC chairman said that by the movement, the ruling party has captured all the six states in the North-Central zone.

He said the APC is also ready to retain the presidency in 2027.

Earlier in the day, Mr Mutfwang had held what was described as a valedictory meeting with his aides and loyalists where he briefed them on his final preparations to join the APC.

Mr Mutfwang’s political adviser, Mr Istifanus Mwansat, had told our correspondent that though Mr Mutfwang had not formally joined the APC, his mind and body are in the party.

He said that the governor would finalise his entry into the APC by resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party and registering in the APC in his ward in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.
