Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Thursday met with his aides and key loyalists and briefed them formally on his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Our correspondent gathered that this move followed disenchantment among his key aides who frowned on the fact that the governor had not been carrying them along in his decisions either to leave the PDP or remain in the party.
It was further gathered that the disenchantment was more pronounced among commissioners and local government chairmen.
The Political Adviser to the Governor, Mr Istifanus Mwansat, who spoke to our correspondent in a telephone conversation on the recent developments, debunked rumours making the rounds that Mr Mutfwang had formally defected to the APC.

According to him: “The governor cannot defect to APC like that, but it’s almost certain that he will. But for now he is still a card-carrying member of the PDP.
“For him to move to APC, he must formally resign from PDP, register as APC member in his ward before making his defection official.
“Right now he has done none of those. What happened today was that he met with all his aides and key loyalists and briefed them on his decision to finally defect to the APC.”
Mr Mwansat said that Mr Mutfwang cannot move to the APC through the back door, but would do so through appropriate channels.
