The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State chapter, has expressed dismay over the desperation of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to get the Christians’ body support its Muslim-Muslim ticket at all costs, including hiring impersonators ahead of the 2023 poll.
CAN chairman for Kaduna State, Rev John Hayab, yesterday, said a recent publication by a group, “Progressive Christian Clerics, North West Zone” backing, Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, further revealed the plot to hire unknown groups or persons to counter the position of CAN on the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
The Progressives Christian Clerics, in a statement by its zonal chairman, Rev Moses Bitrus, claimed it had members across the 19 northern states, including Abuja, even as it called on Nigerians to be more concerned about electing leaders with the capacity to tackle the country’s security and economic problems, rather than on the basis of their religious or ethnic affiliations.
However, Hayab denied the existence of such a group saying: “It is a pity that the desperation of the APC presidential candidates, to convince Nigerians that they are being supported by the Christians in the country, will attract non-existence groups of people in the name of Christians claiming to support their candidacy, to milk them.”
