Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala, has disclosed that her father was not happy with her taking off her shirt after she scored Nigeria’s third goal against Australia in Thursday’s group B match of the FIFA Women World Cup.
Oshoala came off the bench in the second half and added the third goal of the 3-2 upset win against highly rated Matildas after she benefited from a mix up in the Aussies defence. She raced into the box tucked in the ball from a tight angle.
After the back breaking goal against Australia who were playing in front of their home fans in Brisbane, Oshoala ran down the flanks and peeled off her shirt as she celebrated her goal, which made her the first African woman to score in three consecutive World Cups. She got a yellow card for over celebration as the rules stipulate. “Dad was definitely not happy with my choice of celebration, but then again life is a collection of moments,” the Barcelona FC ladies striker wrote on her instagram page.
Before her disclosure , the photo of her displaying her feminine features had become an instant hit on social media as fans celebrated with the Nigerian top striker, while others, especially of her faith questioned her for going topless.
The 28-year-old will be hoping all the dust raised by the decision goes down on time for her to focus on the team’s last game against the Republic of Ireland, where a win will secure their spot in the knock out round of the tournament.
