The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old nursing student, Miss Vivian Chilaka, in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
Chilaka’s death on June 14, 2026, had sparked widespread concern within the community and beyond.
The suspect, according to the Anambra State Police Command Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was arrested on September 4, 2026, following what the police described as credible and actionable information received by the Command.
According to preliminary investigations, Ibekwe allegedly gained access to the building by climbing the fence with the aid of a ladder, reportedly with the initial intention of sexually assaulting the victim.
The police said a struggle subsequently ensued between the suspect and the deceased, during which he allegedly used a knife to stab Chilaka, resulting in her death.
The Command also disclosed that the suspect had allegedly made revelations linking him to other similar incidents within the community.
However, the police said that the claims were still being investigated and would have to be corroborated before any further conclusions could be reached.
The Command further clarified that the landlord who had earlier been suspected in connection with the murder had been exonerated following the ongoing investigation.
It, therefore, urged members of the public to disregard earlier suspicions against the landlord.
The suspect is being held in police custody as detectives continue investigations, particularly into his alleged involvement in other related criminal incidents.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, commended the people of Alor for their cooperation, patience and support throughout the investigation.
He particularly appreciated members of the community who provided timely and useful information that contributed to the arrest of the suspect.
The Commissioner assured the public that the Command would continue to pursue every credible lead and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, strengthening public confidence in policing and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes do not escape justice.
