Malam Muhammad Garba, the Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, is an impressive journalist, administrator and gentleman.
He is a former cabinet member of Dr. Ganduje’s two-term administration as governor in Kano State
Garba first served as Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, and later as Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs from 2015 to 2023.
Before servibg as commissioner in Kano State, he was a Federal Commissioner at Fiscal Responsibility Commission from 2011 to 2014, and member and convener, Federal Government Subsidy and Reinvestment and Empowerment Committee (SURE-P) between 2012 to 2015.
A journalust of note, Garba served as National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for two terms. He also served as President, West African Journalists Association (WAJA) and also President of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ), Casablanca.
The seasoned journalist, who is a member of steering committee of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Dublin, Ireland, was Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1993 and to the Deputy Governor of Kano State from 1999-2003.
Garba, holds a Bachelor’s degree in History/Political Science and a Master’s degree in Development Studies from Bayero University, Kano. He also holds a National Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from the International Institute of Journalism.
Garba began his journalism career in 1989 with Triumph Publishing Company Limited, Kano as a reporter and served in various states of the federation as a correspondent. He rose to the position of Sub-Editor, Chief Sub-Editor, Group News Editor, and Deputy Editor. He also served as a member of the Editorial Board of many national newspapers.
As Chief of Staff to APC national chairman, Garba comes with an invaluable experience, which he will bring to bear in the discharge of his duty.
