Love or loathe him, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa is not a man that history will allow to be dismissed lightly. For the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, he stands as a sturdy mirror of resilience, success and benevolence.
As a politician, Obasa is a thoroughbred grassroots mobiliser and dogged fighter. He has remained a recurrent decimal in Lagos State politics—especially in the last 10 years as the longest-serving leader of the State legislature. But majorly, his staying power is his impactful leadership. Obasa’s impact is profoundly felt, as countless individuals who seek his assistance often emerge from their struggles empowered and hopeful, their spirits lifted by his unwavering support.
Recently, Obasa celebrated his birthday and a decade as Lagos Number 3 man with an historic youth empowerment drive. The Speaker hosted a pre-birthday event with hundreds of students drawn from all five Education Districts across the state. The atmosphere was electric as hundreds of young people gathered, filled with hope and anticipation. The event featured inspiring voices from diverse sectors including tech, fashion, medicine and politics.
Obasa’s message was clear: this was not about personal accolades but about investing in the next generation. The empowerment went beyond words as each participating student received ₦100,000 —a gesture that underscored Obasa’s commitment to practical support for education, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship.
