First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens to prioritise renewable energy and sustainable technologies as key to environmental protection and healthy living, marking the International Day of Clean Energy 2026.

In a message she personally signed and released on Mondayday under the theme “Clean Energy for People and Planet,” Mrs. Tinubu emphasised the collective duty to safeguard the nation’s environment. “Today, as we commemorate the International Day of Clean Energy 2026, under the theme ‘Clean Energy for People and Planet,’ we are reminded of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve the environment in which we live,” she stated.

The First Lady highlighted the urgency of shifting to green energy solutions amid growing climate challenges in Nigeria and globally. She urged, “I urge us all to embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as an essential foundation for survival, healthy living, and environmental stewardship.”

She added, “Let us work together to build a greener, healthier planet for all”, concluding with, “Happy International Day of Clean Energy 2026.”

The International Day of Clean Energy, observed annually on January 26, promotes global transitions to sustainable power sources for economic growth and planetary health.

First Lady of Nigeria’s appeal comes as the country grapples with energy access issues, fossil fuel dependency, and climate impacts like flooding and deforestation. Her message aligns with ongoing national efforts, including the Renewable Energy Master Plan, to boost solar, wind, and hydropower adoption.
