MPox: WHO warns Osun residents

The World Health Organisation (WHO), has cautioned residents of Osun State against the danger of MPox and avoid relenting in tackling the menace.

Speaking at a community awareness and engagement to educate residents on transmission and prevention of MPox in Osogbo, the state capital, at the weekend, the technical officer of WHO, Dr. Fatoki Basheer, warned that the fact that the state has been able to tackle the earlier cases does not mean that it has gone.

He noted that the programme organised by the state government in partnership with WHO was to enlighten the people so as to prevent MPox and avoid looking for solution.

He warned people against bush meat, noting that it is one of the ways to contact MPox.

Noting that MPox can transmit through body contact with the infected animal or person, Basheer warned people to wash their hand every time.

He also advised the people to cook their food very well before eating, noting that carelessness has killed many people.

“Osun had confirmed four cases and two were in Osogbo. Though, the state was able to fight it, but people now relent as if MPox has gone.

“We must continue to educate people about its danger. Regular hand washing is very important. We have said it many times that bush meat is risky but some people don’t want to believe,” Basheer said.
