MPB Chairman, Adamu, commends Tinubu for prioritizing welfare of military pensioners

The Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Adamu, has commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritiing the welfare of pensioners.

Adamu, said veterans have continued to witness prompt payment of their pension and release of salary increments under the present administration.

The chairman made this known at an interactive meeting he held with members of the military veterans association in Abuja.

Adamu, while reiterating the commitment of the federal government to improve the welfare and wellbeing of retired and serving personnel of the Nigerian armed forces, promised to look into the various challenges of the veterans with a view to addressing them.

The chairman who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the veterans some of whom retired from service 36, years ago, promised to run an open door policy and engage with all veteran associations and called for cooperation and support to move the board forward.

He said “I believe no one has a monopoly on knowledge. With your advice, support, and cooperation, we can move the Board to greater heights,”.

“We are here because of you. Without veterans, there is no Board,”.

Adamu, while acknowledging some of challenges the veterans are going through, urged them to voice their concerns freely, assuring attendees that concerns beyond the board’s purview would be escalated to the appropriate authorities.

He also praised the support of the Minister of Defence, noting his responsiveness to veteran-related matters.

The meeting which held at the NAF conference centre and had leaders of all the key veteran groups and board directors in attendance, deliberated on challenges of retired personnel and proffer solutions on the way forward.

In his address at the occasion, retired Air Commodore Isaac Oguntuyi, Chairman, Ministry of Defence Veteran Welfare Committee, applauded the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind in over three years.

Oguntuyi called for frank discussions and unity among veterans, particularly in light of the upcoming Veterans Federation of Nigeria (VFN) meeting.

“This is our chance to set the agenda, not just for the Board but for ourselves as veteran associations,”
