José Mourinho is closing in on a dramatic return to Real Madrid after reportedly reaching a verbal agreement with the Spanish club for a second spell in charge.

Multiple reports said the Portuguese manager has agreed to a two-year deal with Real Madrid, with only the signing of final documents left before the move becomes official.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development on Monday, saying Mourinho is expected in Madrid after Real’s final La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao.

“All terms have been verbally agreed between José Mourinho and Real Madrid, waiting to sign all documents.

“Plan for initial two-year deal, JM to travel to Madrid after Real-Bilbao game. The Special One is back,” Romano posted on X.

If completed, the appointment will mark Mourinho’s return to the Santiago Bernabéu more than a decade after his first stint between 2010 and 2013.

During his previous spell, Mourinho guided Real Madrid to a La Liga title, Copa del Rey triumph and Spanish Super Cup success, while building one of the club’s fiercest teams of the modern era.

Although Real Madrid are yet to issue an official statement, excitement is already growing among fans over the possible comeback of one of football’s most decorated and controversial managers.

The club is expected to announce the deal in the coming days after contractual formalities are concluded.
