Final-year students of the Department of Food Science and Technology at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), are invited to take part in the Emerging Trends in Food Science & Technology Project 1.0.
The initiative is organised by the NexEdge Research Scheme through its founder and MOUAU alumnus, Maduabuchi Daniel Uluocha, in collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Technology. The project has received approval from the Head of Department, Prof. Joel Ndife, and endorsement from other faculty members, including Dr. Anselem Uzoh Onwuzuruike, who serves as the liaison between NexEdge and the Department.
As part of the preliminary screening, students will submit a 1,000-word essay on the theme: AI and Machine Learning in Agri-Food Systems: Optimising Supply Chain Efficiency and Sustainability. Submissions are open from October 13 to November 3, 2025, with 15 shortlisted finalists to be announced on November 17, 2025.
The project will culminate in oral presentations on December 8, where finalists will develop cutting-edge topics from their final-year research, conduct a comprehensive review, and present their findings using Microsoft PowerPoint before faculty members, NexEdge officials, and their peers. The presentations will be rigorously assessed, with an award ceremony scheduled for December 15.
Prizes include cash awards, certificates, mentorship opportunities with global researchers, international networking, recognition as NexEdge Scholars for the top three participants, and access to NexEdge-funded research project(s).
