Morocco player Brahim Diaz created history on Sunday by scoring a goal in his team’s 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 victory over Tanzania.

Díaz’s second-half goal meant that the host team overcame Tanzania 1-0, advancing to the AFCON quarterfinals.

Morocco will now meet Cameroon in the AFCON final eight.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Diaz’s goal against Tanzania means the Real Madrid winger has now become the first player in Morocco’s history to score 4 goals in a single AFCON run.

Diaz is now the leading top scorer at the AFCON with four goals to his name.

The 26-year-old, who is ahead of the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Ayoub El Kaabi, has been impressive for Morocco in the tournament so far.
