Traditional Ruler of Oba community, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, Igwe Augustine C. Emelobe has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the improved security architecture in place across the state and transformative leadership evident in massive infrastructural development provided under his administration.
Emelobe, the Eze Okpoko II of Oba, in a welcome address at weekend, to receive Governor Soludo during his visit to the community, noted that Oba, just like other communities in the state, is now far more secure than it has been in recent times, courtesy of the Soludo administration’s efforts on securing lives and properties in the state.
He commended the governor for the candid steps the Soludo administration is taking to address youth restiveness and unemployment as well as its giant strides in peace building and transformative leadership.
Emelobe conveyed the gratitude of the community to the governor for his commitment, dedication and forthrightness in ensuring the peaceful nomination, selection and enthronement of a new Igwe and Eze Okpoko in Oba after the ascension unto glory of their former revered Igwe Peter Chukwuma Ezenwa in 2018.
“The selection process was peaceful and rancour-free due to your wise and judicious handling of the process. We also thank the Hon Commissioner for Lands and SPAD for the resolution of land dispute at the International Pharmaceutical Drug Market, Ogwugwu Oba, with the landowners that enabled the investors to continue with their work. Oba wants rapid development of the town and we look forward to the commissioning of the international market soon,” he said.

The monarch also appealed for the speedy completion of the Umuoji-Oba-Akwu Ukwu Road to improve movement of people, goods and services across the state and also drew the governor’s attention to the ravaging effects of flooding caused by inadequate discharge of runoff water from the major highways in Oba which has resulted in devastating gully erosions in Okuzu village and other parts of the community.
“We request you to please appoint our sons and daughters into your government since we have vowed to join in the democratic process and ensure that our citizens from the grassroots demonstrate interest in national politics. Our Solution Governor, Oba people are wholeheartedly in support of your government and will demonstrate this at the next election,” the monarch said.
Responding, Governor Soludo congratulated Igwe Emelobe for his emergence as the Eze Okpoko II of Oba. He disclosed that as a man of frank views and due process, he stood his ground that the election for the traditional stool of Oba must be repeated when it was discovered that the first election did not fully follow the laid down process of the law.
Soludo stated that he did not hesitate to issue a Certificate of Return to Emelobe after he emerged winner for the second time in the repeat election which satisfied all processes of the law.
He hailed the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in Oba community and said that the Umuoji-Oba-Awka-Ukwu road would be completed, assuring that more development projects would be brought to the community, and noted that Iba is the next big town in Anambra after Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi.
Governor reiterated that Anambra was in urgent need for a reset when he assumed office over three years ago but expressed satisfaction with intentional actions of his administration, saying that things are taking shape for the better in the state. He thanked the people of the community for their support and urged them to sustain the tempo because he will never disappoint the state.
