Akwa Ibom state Police Command has said that one Samuel Geofrey has been arrested at Ine Eyoabasi village , Ibaka in Mbo local government area of the state for militant and piracy activities while the Village Head of the fishing settlement fled .
Akwa Ibom state Police commissioner Baba Azare who stated this in Uyo yesterday during media briefing said the village head fled during operation to flush out militants and sea pirates terrorizing the riverine communities.
Azare said Geofrey; a native of Atakpere in Eketemo local government area of Bayelsa state was arrested in collaboration with Marine Hunters and has admitted committing the crime during interrogation.
“On 3rd November, 2025, at about 1145hrs, operatives of the Command, in collaboration with Marine Hunters, intercepted and arrested one Samuel Geofrey ‘m’, aged 27 years, a native of Atakpere Community in Ekeremo LGA of Bayelsa State.
“The suspect confessed to being an active militant involved in sea piracy and kidnapping” .
According to the police commissioner, the suspect disclosed that his rifle used in their operations was in the custody of the village head who bolted away on sighting the police in the village.
” The suspect disclosed that his rifle was in the custody of one Kingdom Bane ‘m’, the Village Head of Ine Eyoabasi Fishing Village” .

Azare explained that the Operatives ransacked the village and recovered stolen items from sea travellers .
“Operatives immediately stormed the village. Though the Village Head fled upon sighting the teams, a search of his makeshift residence led to the recovery of numerous items suspected to have been stolen from sea travelers”.
He said items recovered from in their hideout include One 40HP, two 15HP, and one 8HP marine engines, four power heads, four gear boxes, four propellers, and four engine covers
Other items were one Snow Sea deep freezer, three generators,
three brand new toilet seats,
two brand new toilet sinks,
one sewing machine,
14 empty drums, one 3kg gas cylinde ,boat parts and household items as well.as a bag containing the personal effects of one Chibuike Vincent Awah of Onitsha, Anambra State with his Identity card and NIN slip
“The suspect is in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing Village Head,” he said.
