At least 21 people, including a monarch, two pastors and two policemen, were allegedly abducted in Pupule village in Yorro Local Government Area of Taraba State, in the early hours of yesterday.
A resident, who spoke to Daily Sun said the armed men, suspected to be kidnappers, stormed the village around 2am yesterday, and picked people up randomly while shooting sporadically to scare people away.
A source said: “It was a very horrible night. I just got back to the village on Monday evening and while we were in bed, around 2am, we started hearing gunshots. This morning, we realised that at least 21 people have been abducted. The Second Class Chief, Alhaji Umaru Abubakar Nyala, was abducted, two policemen residing in the area were also abducted, two pastors who came in from Yola for a burial service today were also taken, and a student of Taraba State University.
“We also gathered that a father was taken with his pregnant daughter and brother, and other people. This is becoming too common in this village. Most of the people taken are just ordinary people who are struggling to survive. It is not funny again at all,” the resident said.
Another resident told Daily Sun that there are policemen in the village trying to track the kidnappers and victims.
Spokesman for the Taraba State police command did not return Daily Sun’s call nor reply to a text message to him requesting further information on the incident.
