A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is treating Saturday’s Osun State governorship election as a test run for the 2027 general election.
Momodu made the allegation during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the political atmosphere ahead of the Osun governorship poll.
According to him, the ADC had gathered intelligence suggesting that the APC viewed the election as an opportunity to test its strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We know the characters we are playing with; they don’t believe in democracy. We get our intel, and the intel is that APC sees the Osun election as a dress rehearsal for what will happen in January [the 2027 election],” Momodu said.
His comments came amid heightened political activities and accusations among rival parties ahead of the election, with parties trading allegations over intimidation, violence and attempts to influence the outcome of the poll.
During the programme, Momodu also defended Governor Ademola Adeleke against criticism of his dancing, arguing that the governor’s personal hobby should not be a concern if his administration is delivering on its responsibilities.
“The ‘dancing governor’ is performing. Let Adeleke give me a lot of dancing; as long as he is delivering, he is not wasting the resources of Osun State on dancing,” he said.
Momodu compared the criticism of Adeleke’s dancing with the activities of governors who play golf, arguing that similar scrutiny was not directed at them.
“We have governors who play golf, and they travel all over the place to play their golf; nobody is complaining,” he added.
