The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, and his wife, Wunmi, have failed to reach a compromise on conducting a DNA test for their deceased son’s paternity.
The Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu had previously directed the parties to explore alternative dispute resolution on the matter.
According to a statement by Monisola Odumosu, representing the deceased family’s legal team, the parties attempted to follow the court’s directive but could not reach an agreement due to external factors.
The statement explained, “Following the directive of the court for the Aloba family to explore alternative dispute resolution on the pending DNA application before the court, Mr. Joseph Aloba (Mohbad’s father), Mrs. Wunmi Cynthia Aloba (Mohbad’s wife), and their lawyers held settlement talks behind closed doors. However, the settlement broke down as parties could not find common ground.”
The breakdown in settlement was reported to the court at the last hearing on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Counsel to Joseph Aloba from Hillceetee Partners, Emmanuel Oroko, led by Monisola Odumosu, informed the court that the talks were unsuccessful due to external factors. M.K.O Orire, counsel to the respondent (Mohbad’s wife), confirmed the failed settlement.
Both parties requested the court to set a date for hearing all pending applications regarding the DNA test.
Presiding Magistrate Mrs. A.B Olagbegi-Adelabu adjourned the case for the hearing of all pending applications on the DNA test but urged the parties to attempt further settlement before the next court date.
The legal team of the Aloba family had applied for a DNA test following social media speculation about the paternity of Mohbad’s child with Wunmi. The Aloba family insists on the necessity of the DNA test due to the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
The Aloba family expressed their gratitude to supporters of their pursuit of justice for Mohbad and clarified that no one has been appointed as a spokesperson for the family. Any statements made without clearance from the legal team should not be attributed to the Aloba family.
