Mohbad: Group asks police to brief public on findings, investigate threat to wife, son

Mohbad

By Christopher Oji

A non-governmental organisation, Take it Back Movement, has called on the Nigeria Police to brief the public of their findings on Nigerian musician, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The group also urged the police to investigate  threats to the late musician’s wife, Wunmi, and his child, Liam, by some members of the public who, allegedly, have been bullying them.

At a press conference in Lagos, Head, Gender Department of the group, Omolola Pedro, said the group was not happy about the continued silence of the police on the investigation into the death of Mohbad.

Omolola and Comrade Ayoyinka Oni also said the continued delay in getting justice for Mohbad has exposed his wife, Wunmi, and only child, Liam, to several attacks like cyber bullying, cyber stalking, organised malicious campaigns against their persons and even physical harassment. The group insisted that if the police had briefed the public about their findings through coronial inquest, it would have stopped speculations about the death of Mohbad.

“If the police had briefed the public of their findings, all these social media vultures, who are looking for traffic, would have ceased writing nonsense about Mohbad, wife and kids. They claim that they are seeking justice for Mohbad, while they are doing injustice to his family. Everyday you hear one story or the other on social media, and gullible Nigerians believe such fictitious stories. But, if the police had told their findings, all these cock and bull stories would have stopped. So far, the police are the only authentic organisation that is capable of telling the real stories.

“We are appealing to the new commissioner of police in Lagos to brief the public on the police findings about Mohbad’s death. The police had arrested some people, invited some, interrogated some, and through their investigation, they have first class information that they should give to eager members of the public who are itching to know the true story about his death. We are also appealing to the police to take judicious notice of those threatening Mohbad’s wife and kid. They should be invited, interrogated and made to give evidence in court about all they know about Mohbad’s death. It is not enough to go to the social media to say rubbish, claiming that they know something about Mohbad’s death; they should be invited to stand as deterrents to others who wake up and tell one story or another to get traffic on their social media handles.

“We also want to use this medium to warn those writing rubbish about Mohbad to know that they are dehumanising and bullying his wife and kids, and that we are ready to call them out to appear in the law court. Nobody has the right to bully others by telling cooked up stories about the deceased’s wife and kid.

Why should people be suggesting DNA tests for a widow or suggesting one unholy thing or the other with the aim of ruining her image? They should please allow Mohbad’s wife to mourn him and stop tormenting her and the child.

The circumstances surrounding the death of the  singer sparked a public outcry and the eventual emergence of the “Justice for Mohbad” campaign, which metamorphosed into protests across the country.
