Love for art and creativity had gingered the dressmaking interest of Motunrayo Faith Danjuma, who currently helms Modan Stitches Ltd., a leading fashion house based in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Motunrayo, whose career began about seven years ago, dreamt of redefining African fashion by blending traditional fabrics with modern designs. And today, the journey has been incredibly exciting. She enthused: “We’ve grown from a small workshop to a brand recognised for its quality and creativity. Our designs celebrate African heritage while catering to a global audience, and we’ve had the opportunity to dress a diverse clientele both locally and internationally.”

Motunrayo has a great and vivid vision for Modan Stitches. Aside making the brand globally recognised by creating timeless, innovative and sustainable designs, she equally wants to make it a tool for empowering communities, setting new standards of excellence in the fashion industry.

“My mission is to craft exceptional Afrocentric designs that blend traditional aesthetics with modern styles, while providing clients with high-quality and versatile fashion pieces. I am committed to promoting African culture, fostering creativity and driving sustainable practices in the industry, as well as supporting local artisans and contributing to the growth of the global economy through fashion designing,” she declared.

On what distinguishes Modan Stitches from the competition, the fashionpreneur affirmed that it is the brand’s specialisation in contemporary Afrocentric designs. “We create bespoke and ready-to-wear outfits that merge traditional African prints like Ankara, Aso Oke and Adire with modern styles. We focus on elegant tailoring, premium fabrics, and designs that celebrate individuality and cultural heritage.”

However, since the highly competitive industry is imbued with several challenges, Motunrayo believes that building a loyal clientele takes time, especially when one is competing with established global brands.

Counseling up and coming fashion designers, the Chief Executive Officer/Creative Director of Modan Stitches Ltd., urged them to always stay true to their vision, and be willing to learn and adapt.

She stated further, “The upcoming ones must build a strong foundation in the technical aspects of fashion designing, and focus on creating unique identities for their brands. Networking is key, so surround yourself with mentors and collaborators who share your values. And then patience and persistence are crucial, because success in fashion takes time.”

Motunrayo foresees a brighter future for her haute couture business. In the next five to 10 years, she perceives Modan Stitches as a brand that will represent the best of African fashion on the global stage. “We aim to expand our presence in international markets, launch sustainable collections and open flagship stores in major cities around the world. Additionally, I hope to establish a fashion academy to nurture the next generation of African designers,” she said with a glint of hope in her eyes.
