Miva Open University, a subsidiary of the uLesson Group, has won the Excellence in Accessible Higher Education 2026 award at the 14th Global Brands Magazine Awards, in recognition of its efforts to expand access to university education through technology-driven teaching and flexible learning opportunities.

The recognition highlights the growing importance of digital education in addressing barriers to higher education, particularly for individuals seeking to combine academic pursuits with employment, professional development and other personal responsibilities.

Global Brands Magazine (GBM), organisers of the annual awards, said the recognition was based on an evaluation of institutions and organisations across different countries and industries, with emphasis on innovation, quality, branding, customer service and overall performance.

According to the organisers, Miva emerged as the winner in its category following an assessment of its approach to delivering accessible higher education through an open and distance learning model.

The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to provide learners with flexible opportunities to acquire academic qualifications while benefiting from digital learning resources and structured academic support.

Commenting on the award, the Chief Executive Officer of uLesson Group, Iheanyi Akwitti, described the recognition as an endorsement of the group’s commitment to expanding access to quality education through innovative learning solutions.

“We are pleased to be recognised by Global Brands Magazine for our contribution to expanding access to quality higher education.                     This recognition reflects our commitment to delivering innovative learning experiences that respond to the needs of today’s learners,” Akwitti said.

He said Miva would continue to strengthen its educational model and create additional opportunities for individuals seeking to advance their academic qualifications and professional ambitions.

The university’s learning model combines technology-enabled instruction with academic support, allowing students to pursue their studies through a structured but flexible system intended to accommodate different learning needs and circumstances.

Global Brands Magazine said the award recognised the increasing contribution of flexible and technology-enabled learning to expanding university education and improving opportunities for students who might otherwise face difficulties accessing conventional campus-based programmes.

The organisers noted that the annual awards were designed to recognise institutions and organisations demonstrating notable performance, innovation and leadership within their respective sectors.

The 2026 recognition places Miva among the institutions acknowledged by the magazine for their contributions to the education sector, particularly in the development of alternative pathways to acquiring university qualifications in Nigeria.
