The House of Representatives minority caucus has joined the call for the release of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Daily Sun gathered that minority caucus, which consists of lawmakers elected on the platform of all the opposition political parties, at its meeting, in Abuja adopted a motion by the member representing Umuahia/ Ikwuano Federal Constituency of Abia State, Obi Aguocha, calling for Kanu’s release.
There have been clamour by stakeholders, including South East governors, South East caucus, in the House of Representatives, amongst others, for the release of Kanu, as a way of restoring peace to the South East.
Recently, Aguocha visited former president, Muhammadu Buhari, Alongside 49 other lawmakers, he wrote to President Bola Tinubu demanding Kanu’s release.
Aguocha, in his motion, at the minority caucus meeting, it was gathered urged the caucus take a definite stand on the clamour for the release of the IPOB leader, as well as explore a political solution to his case.
The lawmaker, who has been making case for the release of January, had argued that the resolution of the IPOB, was crucial for national peace, stability, and unity. Consequently, he called for immediate and strategic engagement with relevant stakeholders to advocate a peaceful and political resolution to the matter in the overall interest of the country..
Aguocha, it was also gathered “underscored the potential benefits of addressing the situation through dialogue and reconciliation rather than a prolonged abuse of legal processes and confrontation.”
