Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has urged Nigerian women to intensify their efforts toward inclusive governance, economic participation, and national development.
Speaking at a one-day town hall meeting and citizen engagement recently in Abuja, the minister stressed the critical need for greater female representation in politics and business.
The town hall meeting highlighted a collective commitment to empowering Nigerian women as pivotal agents of change in politics, business, and community development.
“The reason why we are here is because we want what is best for ourselves, for the Nigerian women, for our community, for our families,” Hajiya Imaan declared, highlighting the urgency of collective action.
Central to her message was the proposed special reserve seats bill currently before the National Assembly, which seeks to guarantee fair representation of women in governance. She stressed that women must adopt a strategic, united, and forward-thinking approach to political and economic empowerment.

“We are the voting strength of this country; we and our children. That gives us the permission to negotiate for anything because we will stick to our words. We have to be masters in negotiating,” she said. “We have to strengthen our mechanisms. We have to mentor ourselves. Days are gone when five women come out for one seat and split the votes.”
The event also featured prominent voices from various sectors. Hauwa Ibrahim, wife of the Ona of Abaji and president of the FCT Traditional Rulers Wives Association, praised the collaborative spirit of the engagement. “The minister’s efforts resonate deeply with traditional institutions and women leaders across the country. Collaboration and shared responsibility are key to sustainable progress,” she noted.

President of the Association of Women in Trade and Agriculture, Ruth Agbo, highlighted the resilience of Nigerian women in driving agricultural productivity and trade growth. However, she stressed the urgent need for adequate equipment and support to fully unlock this potential.
