Military forces have hit Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP) terrorists hard in attacks on troops at five locations in Borno.
The terrorists simultaneously launched fresh attacks on military locations at Goniri in Yobe State, Delwa, Kukawa, Mainok and troops harbour positions deep in the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
Spokesman of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lt Col Sani Uba said in a statement yesterday that troops successfully defeated the terrorists attack that occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning.
“Fighting across multiple fronts, the troops effectively coordinated their defensive actions while reinforcements and the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided timely and decisive support during the engagements.”
He said the terrorists were met with overwhelming resistance and were forced into withdrawal “after suffering significant casualties from several terrorist bodies left behind.”
Some personnel including an army officer and soldiers were killed in the fierce battle at Kukawa, a town near Chad borders in the Northern part of the state.
Uba said troops recovered some weapons and equipment abandoned at the scenes.
These include two PKT machine guns, six AK-47 rifles, eight RPG bombs, four mortar bombs, and assorted ammunition of various calibres.
