Military armoury on fire in Borno, residents flee

army

By Christopher Oji

There was a fire outbreak in Giwa Army Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Wednesday.

The fire, which ravaged the armoury store, has caused serious concerns in the nearby communities.

The cacophony of the sounds emanating from the armoury led to panic as people were still fleeing the communities.

A resident, Umar Sanni, told Daily Sun, “I live near the Barracks. The fire is devastating. I doubt if anything is remaining in the armoury.

“The explosion looks as if there is war. As I am talking to you, bombs are still exploding. We are still lying face down. We are praying that explosives will not enter our residence.”
