Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has condemned United States President Donald Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria, describing it as “profound disrespect” to the authority of the West African nation.

Gumi said this in a Facebook post on Sunday.

In a Saturday post on Truth Social, Trump disclosed that he had ordered the US Department of War to prepare for “possible action” against radical Islamists in Nigeria, after accusing the government of failing to protect Christians.

The Nigerian government has vehemently rejected the claim.

“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians!” Trump said.

However, Gumi charged the Bola Tinubu administration to “rise” above the threat.

He said, “For Trump to threaten a sovereign country with military attack is a profound disrespect to our authority, but we can rise above it.

“President Tinubu should summon the US ambassador; they either retract their threats or we sever diplomatic ties with this irresponsible regime.

“There are lots of other options for our economic expansion and military alliance.”
