Prof. Ejike Hyacinth Mgbenkemdi has backed the re-election of the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, Amobi Godwin Ogah, in 2027.
Mgbenkemdi said voters should assess Ogah on his performance since assuming office in 2023 rather than political sentiments or longevity in politics.
He cited interventions in healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, youth and women empowerment and constituency support as reasons Ogah deserved another term.
“Three years may be short in the calendar of politics, but it can be long enough to reveal something important about a leader — direction. And direction matters,” he said.
Mgbenkemdi particularly highlighted the reported upgrading of Isuikwuato General Hospital, intervention at Achara Hospital, medical outreaches and provision of medical equipment.
He also cited scholarships, WAEC support and ICT initiatives, describing investment in education as capable of producing benefits beyond a politician’s tenure.

“A politician may leave office. A student who receives education may change an entire family. That is the extraordinary power of education,” he said.
Mgbenkemdi said empowerment programmes involving productive assets could also help beneficiaries become economically independent.
He, however, stressed that his support for Ogah was not an argument for automatic re-election but was based on his assessment of the lawmaker’s performance and the potential benefits of continuity.
“This is not an argument for automatic re-election. It is an argument for evidence-based continuity,” he said.
He urged the electorate to examine what Ogah promised, what he had delivered, communities that had benefited and what remained to be done before deciding in 2027.
Mgbenkemdi said the final decision remained with the electorate, urging voters to measure representation by results.
