It was a pulsating final at the first edition of the all-women edition of the Louis Edem West Africa Basketball Championship with two-time women league champion, MFM defeating record holder of the women league, First Bank Women Basketball team, 49-41 points in the final.
Earlier in the day, Victoria Queens of Lagos defeated GRA of Ghana 54-48 points in the third-place game played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, the venue of the tournament.
The organisers of the championship, Louis Edem, applauded all the teams, describing the tournament as another ground breaking for Louis Edem Foundations.
“Its another great moment for all the teams that came for this year’s championship,” he said.
“For example, the team from Ghana, coming out here to play basketball against all the elite teams in Nigeria helps them go back and perform in their league. And one important thing that people forget, it fosters regional cooperation and, you know, fosters youth cooperation and all that.”

Speaking with our correspondent, captain of Victoria Queens, Toluwani Arogundade, it was a great tournament for her team, while also appreciating the organisers for staging the competition.
According to her, it was a great experience for the team and with their intention of taking part in the 2026 Women League, they are going to improve on their performance at the tournament.
One of the sponsors, B4 Sail Finance Ltd said it was another opportunity for them to invest in Nigerian youths through sports.
Oluwatobiloba Oladipupo, the Business Development Officer of the organisation said all the teams played well and it has been an exciting tournament from day one to the final.
While also congratulating the winner, Oladipupo said finance goes beyond just giving companies opportunities: “It’s a way to promote discipline, teamwork and resilience and we can see what the girls are doing.”
