Methodist Church holds summit

The 2024 annual Heads of Conferences Summit and Conference of Africa Methodist Women’s Movement Conference Wing being hosted by Methodist Church Nigeria in Lagos, kicks off today with former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, delivering a lecture.

The organisers visited Obsanjo yesterday as part of mobilisation for the summit.

The five-day event coming up at Methodist Church Nigeria, Wesley Chapel, Lekki, Lagos will run until Monday, June 3, 2024.

The official event kicks off with a Holy Communion Service to be conducted by the Chief Host of the Summit, His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali-Aba, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria.

The theme for this year’s Summit tagged “A revitalised Methodist Movement for the transformation of Africa’s socio – political and economic landscape” will feature a keynote Speaker, Bishop Ivan Abrahams, who is the General Secretary, World Methodist Council.

One of the key highlights of the Summit will be the delivery of the Public Lecture on ‘Leadership in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous World’ on Saturday, June 1, 2024 by Obasanjo.

The summit will be rounded off with multiple thanksgiving services on Sunday, June 2 at various select Methodist Churches throughout the Conference area.

In his words, the Chief Delegate of the Summit, the President, Africa Methodist Council and the Presiding Bishop, Methodist Church Ghana said: “It is right time for us as Christians to rise beyond our religious beliefs in our comfort zones and get involved in our political and economic leadership roles of our nations in order to jointly build a Godly led Continent we will all be proud of. Likewise with our Women’s inclusion as a relevant movement that can effectively complement our vision for the desired transformation.

“As Methodist, we’ve challenged ourselves to take a position on how best we can create and add value socially, politically and economically to our immediate societies by bringing it to the front burner at this year’s Summit and pray for peace and togetherness among nations all over the world and Africa in particular.”

According to the Chairman of the Summit Planning Committee, Rt. Rev. (Dr) Sunday Onuoha, “this year’s Summit is expected to attract notable personalities within and outside the Methodist family all over the World to be led by the President, Africa Methodist Council, Most Revd. (Dr.) Kwabena Boafo and the Chairperson, AMC Women’s Movement, Bishop Purity Malinga among others.
