Lionel Messi, Inter Miami’s captain, has purchased UE Cornelia, a Spanish third division club.

The Argentine superstar had signed a deal that gives him full control of the football club.

This implies that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is now sole owner of the club.

UE Cornellà is presently in third in their Tercera División group, five points behind leaders Manresa.

With a playoff spot already guaranteed, they are looking for promotion.

Messi follows in the footsteps of eternal rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, in buying into a club in Spain.

Ronaldo, earlier this year, acquired a stake in Almería.
