Liverpool legend Steve McManaman has reacted to Alex Iwobi’s goal in Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Hull City at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.
The Nigeria international opened the scoring for the Cottagers with a first-half effort from outside the box that slipped through the arms of Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
The goal proved decisive, handing former Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa his first Premier League victory as Fulham manager.
Analysing the strike, McManaman explained that a slight deflection off Iwobi’s shot made it difficult for Tzolakis to keep the ball out of the net.
“Yeah, it is good to see. Alvaro Arbeloa may get his first win. Slight deflection from Iwobi ‘s shot on the goal,” McManaman revealed on Premier League Productions, as monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.
“From this angle you think yes but it just gets a little deflection to score. Goalkeeper unable to dive over to his near post.”
Iwobi’s strike was his first Premier League goal of the campaign, taking his tally in the competition to 36 goals in 327 appearances.
The former Arsenal midfielder is now joint-sixth among Nigerian players with the most Premier League goals, level with former West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie.
