Fiery Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, yesterday, visited Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, where he offered prayers and predicted a glorious era for the institution under its new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Daniel Nwachukwu.
Mbaka spoke at the university chambers shortly after blessing the Vice Chancellor during the handover ceremony from his predecessor, Prof. Sunday Elom.
He described Nwachukwu as an achiever known for humility, amiability, transparency, ingenuity and an authentic relationship with people, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity to take the university to greater heights.
“This is one of the wonders that has happened in this university because Professor Daniel Nwachukwu is noted for his humility, his amiability, his transparent ingenuity, his manifest spirit of leadership and his authentic relationship with people.
“He is a lover of the youths. With him as Vice Chancellor, I thank God that he will take this noble university to another glorious level and be a blessing to the whole of Nigeria. Being a God-fearing man, he will attract the presence of God and the favour of men. “By the special grace of God, I pray that this noble institution will rise higher, soar like the eagle, and navigate through every storm.

“Professor Daniel Nwachukwu is an achiever — not just one who suggests, but one who executes. I pray that God will use him in the next five years to bring more noble achievements here. The students will be happy and the staff will be happy,” Mbaka said.
Prof. Nwachukwu, a Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), was appointed the fourth Vice Chancellor of AE-FUNAI by the institution’s Governing Council on December 20, 2025.
He was elected Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNEC in 2023. He obtained his first degree in Human Physiology from the University of Lagos in 1995, his master’s degree from the University of Benin in 1997, and his PhD in 2012.
Nwachukwu has spent over 26 years in academia, joining the services of the University of Nigeria in July 1999 and rising to the rank of professor in 2016.
The scholar, who hails from Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was the 201st inaugural lecturer of UNN. During the lecture delivered at the Enugu Campus, on March 7, 2024, he spoke on the potency of Zobo drink in the management of high blood pressure.
His research interests include physiology, flavonoids, hypertension, saponins, hepatotoxicity, antihypertensive studies and alkaloids. He has published extensively in reputable journals and supervised several postgraduate students.
