A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) Alex Chukwuemeka Obiechina, has lauded Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, for wanting to dump the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for the ruling party.
Obiechina, who made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Abuja, Monday, disclosed that Governor Mbah has demonstrated uncommon political courage and sagacity by joining the APC despite his sterling performance in office.
He noted that by responding to the pull of progressive politics and shunning blind opposition politics, the Enugu State governor has shown indeed that his Tomorrow-mindedness is not a fluke.
“I am personally amazed by the way this young man has brought zeal, excellence, courage and foresightedness into governance and politics of Enugu State. Our state had been stagnated for 26 years by the crass impunity, indiscipline and resistance to change, which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) represented.
“Here is a governor whose second term is guaranteed by the record of massive achievements in infrastructure, governance and social development. His decision to join us in the APC shows that he cares for tomorrow more than today.
“Mbah has reflected his Tomorrow is Here mantra in Enugu State in this display of positive response to progressive national politics. He deserves the commendation of every progressive politician in Nigeria and the understanding of every future-minded Enugu State citizen.”

Obiechina, who was Enugu State PDP governorship candidate in 2011, reflected on the party’s impunity which robbed him of his candidacy, saying that it was good a thing that the Enugu State governor resolved to leave the decadent opposition party for a brighter future in APC.
“There is no doubt that PDP is reaping from its many political sins, including corruption, bad party politics, impunity and unparalleled political indiscipline. I very elated and relived that the governor of my home state did not waste a minute more in the evil assembly to join APC.
“I will personally make out time to go and congratulate Governor Mbah for this show of political courage and vision to deliver Enugu State from the trap of PDP. For 26 years our people suffered in PDP both as a state and region. The insult and neglect were of inhuman proportion.
“Apart from denying the South East opportunity to fly the party’s presidential flag in 1999, 2003 and 2023, PDP did not feel any moral compunction to concede to Mbah the right to have a say in the party’s national Working Committee as the only PDP Governor from the zone.
“My joy knows no bound because the governor did not allow this insult to sink in. Now, all the remaining flags of PDP’s years of indignity in South East have been swept out of the zone by Mbah decision to bring in the big broom of national progressive politics.
“After Tuesday, October 13, Enugu people will begin to assert their new-found independence from the enclave of political wickedness,” Obiechina stated.
