From Geoffrey Anyanwu, Enugu
The chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, has said that the achievements of Governor Peter Mbah in less than two years in office have made his second tenure a fait accompli.
Governor Mbah, he said, had remained focussed, showing he was well prepared and equipped for the task of governance and not in power for the title or paraphernalia of office or to learn on the job but to develop the state and for the well-being of the people.
Chukwunwike, who was addressing party stakeholders and faithful, at the first zonal meeting of Enugu West senatorial zone of the PDP held in Awgu Local Government Headquarters, said the Governor’s second tenure was guaranteed and he must go for it in 2027.
Enugu West is made up of Oji River, Awgu, Aninri, Udi and Ezeagu local government areas.
The state party chairman disclosed that Governor Mba was the only governor in the country executing developmental projects in all the political wards in the state simultaneously, noting that within one and a half years in office, he invited President Bola Tinubu, who commissioned laudable projects that touch the lives of the citizens of Enugu State.
He said Mba has executed more than 80 percent of the projects that would make him sail through in the coming 2027 election.
Chukwuwike disclosed that the Governor was putting a new structure in place that would make the PDP clinch total victory in 2027 general election in the state and charged all members to guard against the activities of PDP fraudsters who wanted to destroy the party during the last 2023 general election. Noting that Enugu state is PDP and PDP is Enugu state, he said: “In 2027, all the three senatorial zones’ seats and eight House of Representatives’ seats must be under the PDP control.”
He commended the state leader of the party for appointing the state chairman of the party from Enugu West and assured the Governor of his total commitment and determination in ensuring that PDP is properly rooted in all the 260 political wards of the state.
Earlier in his speech, the zonal chairman and host of the meeting, Chief Ernest Nweze, outlined the various developmental projects being executed by Mbah to include, construction of smart schools in 260 political wards of the state, Type 2 primary health centre (PHCs) in 260 political wards of the state, 10 kilometre asphalt roads in various council areas in the state, as well as youth empowerment, adding that in the next few months, the Governor would approve the reconstitution of development centres in the state with their supervisors.
Nweze expressed gratitude to the Governor for the wonderful works he was doing to change the face of Enugu State and appealed to the people of the zone to be patient with the governor, who he said was determined to make Enugu State the number one state in the country.
