MasterChef Nigeria has officially launched a nationwide search for the country’s best home cook, marking the debut of the globally acclaimed cooking competition in Nigeria.
The inaugural local adaptation of the world-renowned culinary reality show aims to spotlight Nigeria’s vibrant food culture while providing passionate home cooks with an opportunity to elevate their culinary skills and careers.
The franchise was brought to Nigeria by Primedia, with the winner set to walk away with a grand prize of ₦73 million and the title of Nigeria’s first-ever MasterChef. Entries for the competition are open until February 27, 2026.
Speaking at the launch, Tamara van Eeckhoven, Managing Director of Primedia Africa, described the show as a major milestone for Nigerian television. She encouraged aspiring cooks to seize the opportunity to showcase their talent and make a mark in the country’s dynamic food industry.
The show will air on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family, channels under Africa Magic. Africa Magic’s Chief Executive Officer, Kemi Omotosho, said the production underscores the network’s commitment to premium local content that celebrates Nigerian culture and creativity.

MasterChef Nigeria forms part of the global MasterChef franchise, represented internationally by Banijay Entertainment, the content powerhouse behind hit series such as Big Brother and Survivor. The deal for the Nigerian adaptation was negotiated by Banijay Rights, the distribution arm of Banijay Entertainment.
Created by Franc Roddam and first launched in 1990, the MasterChef format is recognised by Guinness World Records as the most successful cookery show in the world, with more than 700 seasons and 16,000 episodes aired globally.
According to Sarah Mottershead, Vice President for Middle East, Africa, Israel, Greece and Cyprus at Banijay Rights, the expansion of the format into Nigeria signals continued global growth for the franchise and promises an exciting viewing experience for audiences.
The competition will feature home cooks from across Nigeria competing in a series of culinary challenges designed to test creativity, technique, flavour and presentation. Contestants will prepare both traditional and contemporary dishes inspired by Nigeria’s diverse culinary heritage while meeting international standards.
Judges for the show, described as esteemed Nigerian chefs, will be announced at a later date. At the end of the season, the last contestant standing will be crowned MasterChef Nigeria and awarded the ₦73 million prize.
To qualify, applicants must be Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above, hold a valid passport, and must not have previously earned a living as professional chefs.
