MASSOB declares May 30 Biafra Day Anniversary

Don’t allow enemies to divide us, MASSOB tells South-East, South-South

From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB) led by Comrade Uchenna Madu has declared May 30, as Biafra Day.

A statement by Edeson Samuel, MASSOB’s National Director of Information, said this year marks the 58th year anniversary of  Biafra declaration by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, on May 30, 1967.

The statement said in the spirit of true  “Biafranism” and brotherhood among Biafra agitators and Biafrans in general, the day will be marked with sit at home exercise in Biafra land.

“MASSOB declares that all markets, public / private motor parks, schools, banks, and other public business premises shall remain closed from 6am to 4pm on May 30.

“The closure of all public places and services on May 30, is a mark of honour, respect and patriotism to our father land. It is a mark of appreciation and acknowledgement of the numerous sacrifices and price our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters rendered for Biafra during the three years of genocide against Biafra by the British backed Nigeria.”

The statement warned against any physical demonstration, street march, procession or any other public functions  in Biafra land on that day.

MASSOB said it was aware there will heavy presence of security personnel on the day, but stated that no amount of intimidation, killings, detention or oppression “will ever stop the will power of an indigenous people for self determination”, the statement added.
