A massive crowd of Peoples Democratic Party supporters and residents on Wednesday thronged major streets across Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party flagged off its campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The campaign train moved through the district’s three federal constituencies—Ifo/Ewekoro, Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South—before terminating at Ake Pavilion, Abeokuta, where the main rally was held.
The exercise began at Agbado Station in Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, where residents lined the streets and stood on balconies to welcome the party’s governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu; his running mate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; Ogun Central senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo; and other party leaders.
In Abeokuta North, where Dele Olaleye is the PDP House of Representatives candidate, supporters who had gathered from about 10 a.m. received the campaign team at NTA Junction, Totoro.
Residents and party supporters sang solidarity songs as the candidates pledged purposeful representation at the National Assembly.
Abeokuta South also witnessed a large turnout as thousands of supporters welcomed the campaign train and accompanied the convoy to Ake Pavilion. Toyin Amuzu is the party’s House of Representatives candidate for the constituency.
Addressing the rally, Adebutu urged the electorate to support Obasanjo, describing her as a tested and trusted candidate whose achievements during her previous tenure as the district’s representative had not been matched.
He said Ogun Central must bid farewell to non-performance and vote for what he described as liberation.
Adebutu also urged residents to turn out en masse to vote for the PDP on January 16, 2027, protect their votes and resist intimidation.
Obasanjo said she was encouraged that residents across the district continued to point to the projects and empowerment initiatives she delivered during her previous tenure.
She promised to surpass her earlier record and ensure that more residents benefited from the dividends of democracy.
Some residents and party supporters who spoke during the campaign pledged their support for the PDP candidates.
“We will vote for the PDP and stand by our votes,” they said.
