Many women in entertainment are prostitutes – Mummy Wa

Content creator and actress Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as Mummy Wa, has sparked controversy with her claim that a significant number of women in Nigeria’s entertainment industry engage in prostitution.

She made the claim during a recent conversation in which she questioned the sources of income of some female entertainers who, according to her, appear to have no visible businesses or other established sources of revenue yet maintain lavish lifestyles.

The discussion centred on whether financial support from wealthy men should automatically be interpreted as prostitution.

Mummy Wa maintained that claims of having other sources of income should be supported by tangible evidence rather than stated as an explanation for an extravagant lifestyle.

“A lot of women in the entertainment industry are prostitutes. What’s their source of income?” she asked.

“I am a content creator, and I know how much we are making. They make it look like if you go viral, the money will just come. It’s a lie. They should show us their investments.”

In an earlier interview with Saturday Sun, Mummy Wa addressed the attention her curvy figure attracts and whether it sometimes overshadows her talent.

According to her, she has learnt to embrace her appearance as part of who she is.

“I think I’ve learnt to accept and understand that being endowed is still me. It’s still Kemi Ikuseedun, so I don’t even care anymore. If you love me, no problem,” she said.

Reflecting on the challenges of being a curvy woman in the entertainment industry, she noted that women often face unwanted attention and attempts by people to take advantage of them.

“I think it’s in all industries. It’s not easy as a woman; eyes are on you all the time. Nowadays, I feel like things are changing. Women are more respected for their talents,” she said.

She, however, acknowledged that exploitation remains a challenge, adding that both men and women can sometimes take advantage of others in the industry.

“Some men will want to take advantage of you, and even some women will also want to take advantage. Some women take advantage of other women; it goes both ways,” she added.
