Michael Carrick has described managing Manchester United as the “ultimate role,” saying he feels honoured to lead the club during a defining spell in its season.
Speaking about his experience at Old Trafford, Carrick said stepping into the job felt natural rather than overwhelming.
“For me, it’s the ultimate role,” he said. “I’m really enjoying it, I love what I’m doing. I feel privileged to be in the position I am.”
The former midfielder revealed he was driving when he received the call to take over following Ruben Amorim’s departure.
Despite the magnitude of the moment, he said he remained calm. “It was a nice thing to hear, of course it was, but I was quite calm about it actually. It just felt right,” he added.
Results have backed up his confidence. United have picked up 13 points from five league matches, climbing into the top four of the Premier League.

Wins over rivals, including Manchester City and Arsenal, helped secure him a Manager of the Month award.
Carrick said the most rewarding part of the journey has been rebuilding the bond with supporters at Old Trafford. “To feel that connection between everyone, it’s a real special feeling,” he said.
His faith in youth has also stood out, particularly in his handling of 20-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
“He’s a fantastic footballer, and he’s got a huge talent,” Carrick said, noting that he prefers to guide young players without overloading them tactically.
With his contract running until the end of the season, questions remain about his long-term future.
But for now, Carrick insists his focus is simple: “I don’t decide how long that’s going to be, but I love being here, and while I’m here, I’ll give everything I can.”
