Manchester United’s poor run continued on Sunday as they drew 1-1 with Leeds United at Elland Road, despite creating more chances than any other team in the Premier League this season.

United have created 81 chances, ahead of Brighton’s 63 and Nottingham Forest’s 60, according to the latest available statistics. However, their attacking output has failed to translate into victories, leaving manager Michael Carrick under growing pressure.

Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead in the 35th minute, finishing a move involving Youri Tielemans. The visitors had shown attacking intent in the first half, with Mbeumo also heading wide from a Tielemans cross before the pair combined for the opener.

Leeds responded after the break and equalised in the 51st minute. Dominic Calvert-Lewin reacted quickly to Tarik Muharemovic’s knockdown from a corner to score from close range.

The result leaves United with just one win from their opening seven Premier League matches, alongside four draws and two defeats. They have not won a league game since August, raising further questions about their inability to turn attacking opportunities into results.

Despite leading the league in chances created, United have struggled to convert their attacking promise into consistent performances. Their latest outing also exposed problems with maintaining control after taking the lead, as Leeds finished strongly and believed they could have claimed all three points.

United defender Harry Maguire admitted his side needed to show greater courage and composure in possession.

“We could have been a bit braver with the ball and taken the ball under pressure,” he said. “But we’re in a circumstance where we are not as brave as we should be, and we have to get that back because to win games for Manchester United we have to have that bravery and composure.”

Carrick described the performance as a possible “fresh start” and praised his players’ commitment, although United once again failed to secure a win.

“There was definitely commitment. It had to be there today. I didn’t doubt that,” he said.

United’s challenge remains turning their attacking numbers into points. Until they become more clinical in front of goal and more disciplined in protecting leads, their position at the top of the chances-created table will offer little consolation to frustrated supporters.
