The Edo State Police Command has arrested  Ernest Ugbomoiko, 42, of Afuze Community, for  circulating false information that bandits had abducted school children in parts of Edo State, including Afuze, Ehor, Otuo, Agbede, and Igueben.

The Command  in a statement signed by the Edo state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said   that school children were not  kidnapped in the  state.

The Commissioner of Police(CP) Monday Agbonika, reassured the public that the deployment of security personnel to schools and other vulnerable locations across the state was not in response to the false report, but part of proactive policing strategies that had since been intensified on his directive.

“Parents, guardians, school administrators, and students are  advised to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security measures remain in place to guarantee their safety.”

The CP warned that individuals who deliberately spread false information capable of threatening public peace, undermining security operations, or causing public disorder would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are  urged to verify security related information through official channels before sharing such reports.
