A 37 years old bricklayer, Ndubuisi Elom has died after drinking competition Abakaliki, Ebonyi State .

The tragedy occured on  November 30, 2025, after  the deceased consumed the drinks used for betting in Abakaliki.

A witness told   Daily Sun  that the man left his house on the fateful day very strong for Abakaliki, where people seeking  daily  jobs usually gather known as Okpoko oru ,but upon his arrival, the man found already staked dry gin comprising  many alcoholic dinks ,including sachet  drinks and local concoction by his colleague, Chika.

It was gathered that the combination of the substances was meant to be free for an interested drinker who could consume it completely and continue with his daily activity conscientiously, while the cost of the dry gin would be paid double to the buyer, if after drinking and the person happens to loss control of himself.

He added that it was on that premise that  Ndubuisi, who considered himself suitable enough for the risk chose the gamble and enthusiastically swallowed the mixture without knowing it was a drink of death as he reportedly began to produce white bubbles through his  mouth, nostrils and ears after the consumption.

Another worker, Mercy Mbam said that some late Ndubuisi’s relatives that were contacted by  sympathizers over the development, hurriedly took the man to his home hoping that he would regain his consciousness, but he gave up ghost the following day.

The woman alleged that all the characters in the evil act as the disguised generous man, Chika, the drinks seller and the spectators had disappeared into the  thin air after the incident, whereas the remains of  Ndubuisi had been buried on December 1, 2025,at his country home, Ameka, Ezza South LG of Ebonyi State.
