Anfield witnessed drama until the very last second on Sunday as Manchester City came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1, keeping their Premier League title hopes alive.

Liverpool looked set to secure victory when Dominik

Szoboszlai curled a stunning free-kick into the top corner in the 74th minute, sending the home fans into raptures. The Hungarian’s strike seemed d but City refused to fold.

Bernardo Silva equalised in the 84th minute, reacting quickly to a loose ball to level the score, before chaos erupted in stoppage time. Erling Haaland earned and converted a penalty after Alisson fouled Matheus Nunes, handing City a last-gasp 2-1 win.

Even after the decisive spot-kick, the match produced more drama Gianluigi Donnarumma made a brilliant save from Alexis Mac Allister, and Szoboszlai was sent off following VAR intervention amid controversy over a disallowed Rayan Cherki goal.

The three points take Manchester City to within six points of league leaders Arsenal, keeping their title challenge very much alive. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain four points behind fifth-placed Chelsea, leaving their Champions League ambitions under serious threat.

City started the match strongly, with Haaland testing Alisson early, but Liverpool grew into the second half, creating several opportunities.

Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike came close for Liverpool, and Florian Wirtz saw a chance blocked by Marc Guehi.

Szoboszlai’s free-kick ultimately broke the deadlock, only for City’s resilience to shine through late in the game.
